Y'know, theres part of me that wants to keep all negative stuff off of here and maybe even ask you delete the topic, but no. It needs to be said, and I would have probably have said shortly anyway...
but yes. I was very disapointed with the turn out last night, and also quite annoyed at various people.
Heres the long and short of it... various petty arguments by some of the people on the scene led to some people going 'oh im not going tonight cause so-and-so's going to be there' - some of these are good friends of mine and it was going on between several groups of people. Add it all up, and I can honestly say that a fucking large amount of people that were involved either directly or indirectly didnt show. This does make a difference, as it was going on last month as well. This looks bad to new people checking the night out and I wonder whether they will come again?
Id just point out 2 things that - 1) each and every one of these people Im referring to have all said to me or someone else along the lines of 'this is my favourite and best night ever!' .... and 2) some people reading that, as i know they do read this board may think im referring to the Robin Black street team incident that occured on the friday - which im not this is something totally seperate, but that leads me nicely onto it....
yes there was some arguing and upset on the Friday night at the Robin Black gig that all turned a bit pear shaped and nasty. Which I can only speculate, meant that a lot of people (TB Records guys, Robin himself, and others) didnt show. Those involved could read this, but dont read that as Im having a go at you.
Im pissed tho that it affected my night and let people down who were expecting them there which in turn - affected my trade and the money I took, and my professionalism (of DJing and the night). This is not good, and I am not happy. Total shambles, it made me look bad, which I cant accept
Rant over.
Theres a lot of factors also that could contribute to less people coming - tiredness of the Tigertailz/RB gig the night before, people saving money cause of Xmas coming up (Rock City was DEAD that night, one of the smallest turnouts theyve had in a long time apparently too), clashes with other gigs going on (i have no idea if there were other gigs that night? Someone said that there was something going on in Sheffield that night?) and the state of Spiders itself the last month or two which hasnt been at its best (*disclaimer* thats not me saying that, if anyone from Spiders itself reads this - this is what other people have told me and complained about *disclaimer* however personally Ive noticed an improvement as Im sure other people have). Anything else? who knows. Every rock night, whether weekly or monthly will have a bad night at some point. This one was ours. I can only look at the attendance figures from the first one to last month and see a steady INCREASE in numbers every time. This is good. And healthy. But we cant allow it to slip. Spiders as a club isnt doing great with the other nights and a few have closed or are closing and maybe being replaced.
Wildside, if it stays like it was last night, IS in danger too.
Thats a sad fact. We need more people in next month (Sat 3rd Jan) if not, it might close. And do we want that to happen? Hell no - I hope is peoples answer.
So yes, please people, do whatever you can. If anyones up for it, I can send them a batch of flyers and posters to give out - effectively starting a Street Team up! haha! Could be an idea?
Anyway let me know if anyones up for that and PM or email me your address and I'll post some to you, but let me know soon so we can get the ball rolling for next months one.
Thank you Suzanne for your post (and btw... I did play your requests, just one of them was wrongly labelled on the CD - not my fault! And you forgot to ask for yer poster so dont blame me
)
Any suggestions/comments/criticisms/whatever go for it people...
