Ok, quite a few of you have probably had the Wildside Email the other day with some updates on the status of Wildside at Spiders nightclub.
Now, if you're not aware Spiders is coming up to its first year anniversary, but a lot of nights are struggling and have closed.
On Monday nights.. we had a thrash night, then a ska night then an acoustic night... all closed now.
Tuesdays - there was Aftermath (my other DJ night), also closed
Wednesdays - was Whiplash, used to be very popular, now sadly closed and moved once a month on a Thursday
Thursdays - Full Metal Racket has now gone monthly
Fridays - Fri Rock Nite is doing very well, so thats cool
Saturdays....
well Taipan commune has gone now sadly. We now have 3 'goth' nights out the four Saturdays, which are doing very well and are secure, and Wildside takes the other Saturday. Now because its a Sat night, a lot of money needs to be taken over the bar... and to get to the point, we havent been taking enough money over the bar on the last 2 Wildsides and its in danger of being closed. This is NOT because of attendance, because the money taken on the door is given to me with room hire and staff charges taken out and Im doing fine with that. But a club like Spiders, which is struggling, survives on the money taken over the bar... which is not enough at the moment. Now we know the Xmas season is slow and they expected that, but theyve said that by the March Wildside we must be taking over £xxx on the bar or they'll just be forced to not open on that night.
Which is sad, because if we dont reach that target we'd have to move it out of Spiders which I would not like to do. Spiders is the only dedicated rock club in Nottingham, and finding a good club venue AVAILABLE on a Saturday night is very hard to find, especially seeing as most venues are 'trendy'. Im already in talks with several venues around town just in case, and Wildside will NOT be closing, but ladies and gents if we dont reach that target this one and the March one we will be left with no option but to move and I dont want to be put in that risky position!
So...what can we do? How can you help if you want to? Well to start with, tell who you can and drag as many as you can down to the next two. So to help with this, Ive put online a flyer to get in for £1 this saturday that you can print out and give to your friends if you need to convince them to come and rather go to that 'other' club!
And if you want to give some flyers out wherever you are to whoever, than by all means! And I'll sort you out with something nice in return
Well that'll do for now, sorry its a bit of downbeat news but there ya go thats the nature of these places, but Im sure we can easily do this, so lets get kicking some ass!!
