This is a pretty long runnning 'discussion' and source of great piss-taking opportunities bewteen myself and DJevAL based on two of our fave glam bands, so I was wondering what everyone else thought? Who do you like better... The technically proficient and commercially successful 'Skid Row': writers of such classic tunes as 'Youth Gone Wild' , "Riot Act", "Slave to the Grind" and "18 and LIfe" - and unfortunately sharing a song title with poodle rockers 'Danger Danger'. Currently undergoing a successful revival. Plus the original line-up was home to one of rocks most recognisable front- men OR The sleazy underground sounds, infinate cool and style of 'Vain', creators of the glam-sleaze classic 'No Respect'? With a long list of CDs (most of which did not gain commercial success but have a huge cult following) they still rank as one of the 'true' bands of the era. Plus home to the cool-oozing Davy Vain - who unfortunately produced albums for American thrash artistes 'Death Angel' before is own band took off OR maybe you don't give a shit and me and Al should stop this pointless discussion - LOL Evz

My vote would be for Vain.
I've never really got Skid Row. There is something just a little formulaic about them for my tastes. A bit too polished and not sleazy enough. I like my rawk dirty.

I'm still smarting from Skid Row being No.1 in the Top 50 list. It should have been Poison - Open up....
Anyway, I would go with Skid Row, just because Monkey Business and Slave to the Grind are great songs to dance to. Never heard anything by Vain other than No Respect, which admittedly is a great song, so I maybe a bit harsh.
Bit of a pointless post really !!!

Um well... Vain for me is something that Ive not got into not because I dont like the music, I love that first album, but I have it on a copied CD as ive still not found and perchased the original, and I dont always like playing copied CDs at home partly because my CD players are an ARSE at picking them up, and mostly because I like to keep it in good condition for DJing
So Ive not really listened at length to that album, nor have I heard the others.
Ok things... I see little influence or impact they made, I dont see many bands copying them or influenced by them, or citing them as infuences at least. From my eyes theyve always been in the background of the glam scene even below bands like Faster Pussycat, PBF etc. Skids were one of the first bands I got into waaaay back so they hold more memories and I see a lot of bands (mostly bad) that have been influenced and love them. Ive come to realise tho this is not necessarily a good thing and saw just how important Vain really were/are. Its a slow growing fungus on me (haha) and I gradually get more respect over time.
Just Skids hold some special place for me, despite their failings and getting sick of hearing Youth Gone Wild.
So Skids for the time being wins, but getting more respect for Vain.

...additional... I wanna stress that Vain's debut I know its one of those definitive glam albums, a genre classic. No self respecting glammy should be without it! and Evz smells of wee.

For me, Skid Row... not that I dont like or rate Vain (what Ive heard anyway, its just for a few songs that kinda define my introduction to metal by a close friend who's no longer with us on this earth.. RIP Oggie

up until the start of this month it would have been skid row but after the mean fiddler show im not talking to them, they were shite - Yes I know they were good when they played rock city but whatever they had then it's gone...
Please feel free to ask either me or lew about the set and then stand well back for the rant, it can get lengthy...
I've always like vain - so they win by default......
